Before starting the treatment you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire about your health, your blood pressure will be checked and you will have to drink fluids. Once the pre-treatment procedures have been completed you will be taken to the treatment area where qualified staff will assist you.
Each treatment consists of two sessions when you are immersed in hot sand. The temperature of the sand in the sand bath will be around 40-43ºC at the start of the treatment and over the recommended 25-30 minutes that the session lasts the temperature of the sand will fall to around 37-38ºC.
An acid is required in order for the sand to dissolve and release the minerals it contains so that they can be absorbed by your skin. This is provided by your own sweat, which has an acidic pH.
There will be a one-hour pause between sessions to give your body time to return to its normal temperature, and for you to relax and rehydrate by drinking fluids.
All the sand used for the therapy is thoroughly disinfected and is kept under strictly controlled conditions of hygiene, as well as being monitored constantly to ensure the correct temperature and humidity levels.
